Tinkering Gork

Angry Warhammer or What have I done lately?

Gorking about Since the Warlocks journal hosting i have been working on my scifi rpg game and painting miniatures for the upcomming smackdown event 13th of August im co hosting and participating in. So fair warning, if you have no interest in model paintaing half of this post will be pretty boring and the other half is about RPG and being a GM and how i am doing my best to distill golden nuggets from some great articles on the topic. There is absolutely nothing about my TinyGork work to…

Winner of the 27th Warlocks Journal

Time is upon us, i have recieved and compiled the submissions for the 27th Warlocks Journal contest. I have also chosen which is the winner who wins the prize: Lost Pages Bundle The winner had the guile to butter me up by using and referencing Background lore from my blog post about the Nel’dratha Dragons, i confess it most likely worked. But the deviousness of the ‘why’ behind the hiding place of the TRUE NAME spoke to me, not so much the hiding place itself but the reasoning for it,…

Warlock’s Journal #27 May 2016 – True Names

Warlock’s Journal May contest We are once again visited by the Warlock’s Journal, the travelling book of wonderous knowledge. This time the Warlock’s Journal is focused on very specific and mysterious topic, True Names! It is known, that throughout the ages, the eons and the multiverse there has always been one universal truth which seems to have unparallelled powers of domnation, the True Name! But the Journal is apparently focussing it’s attention on a specific example in history where a beings true name was discovered and used to subdue and…

Structuring my GM experinces

It’s been awhile since my last post, TinyGork has been put abit on the backburner due to a mix of laziness, personal issues, work, normal life stuff and now i’m also taking over a RPG group that i was a player in. So i have spent a month or two reading everything i could on www.theangrygm.com which i happened to stumble upon once again because i was looking for an article about abstract dungeons i remember reading a while back. So i found it again and noticed there were other…

Winner of the November Warlocks Journal 2015

The Winner is…. It is now the 30th of November and I have promised to declare you a winner of the November edition of the Warlock’s Journal. So I give to you the winner: Dominick Riesland with his submission CorTempus! CorTempus Nobody knows what the CorTempus does because it has been doing its job for so long that everyone thinks its power is just a natural part of the landscape. The original Timehunters built their headquarters over the CorTempus and have only โ€œrecentlyโ€ discovered that it is separate from the…

Warlock’s Journal – Voting

We have now passed the 15th of November and it is time to put the submitted entries for the Warlock’s Journal to a vote. Contestants were asked to create/describe a wonderous item based upon my sketch of a rune carved heart, the idea was that it has been locked away in the vault of the Timehunters but the journal wants to know why. I have compiled a voting pdf for you to read before you decide how to cast your vote, you may find the pdf at this dropbox link…

Warlock’s Journal – November 2015

Warlock’s Journal November contest We are once again visited by the Warlock’s Journal, the travelling book of wonderous knowledge. This time it is focused on a single particular item, it seems to be researching an item long rumoured to be locked away in the vault of the TimeHunters. Despite the rumours, nobody really knows what the true story is behind this artefact. The artefact sketch was featured in the last episode of GM Nostlagia, it shows a heart with runes carved into it. There were lots of unanswered questions so…

GM Nostalgia #16 – The Demon Heart

Heart of Nostalgia My how the days fly at the moment, it is already 10 days since my last GM Nostalgia post. I promised then that next up would be the Demon Heart, a strange idea that came to me many years ago now. It was originally an idea for a crafts project, but so far it has not made it further than a sketch on paper. The idea was to create a lifesize Demon Heart prop, for no other reason than to do it. What would set it apart…

Random Table – GM response

Which GM Response ? Turn out it is time for another Random table from Tiny Gork, this one was not on my todo list or planned in any way. The other day i saw a mention of Venger Satanis’ 33% rule for GM Determining if something a player proposes would fly or not, in an interview with VS. I have not watched the youtube vid yet though. But out of the blue, on this grey fall day, a table of responses to player inquiry came to me. Editors note: if…

GM Nostalgia #15 – More Underdark

More Underdark mapping There is not much to say on this next update in GM Nostalgia, it’s a continuation of post#14, it’s another map of the Underdark. I think i wore myself out on the second map, it does seem as if i never finished it. Honestly I can’t remember. Well, who would need another map after the first one anyways? that was HUGE. Maybe you can use this for a mega dungeon? As always, I would love to hear from you if you use the map and how it…

GM Nostalgia #14 – My first Underdark Map

Underdark Fascination This time my GM Nostalgia series is about something i have been wanting to share with you for some time. It is a product of my late teen fascination with Drow and the Underdark, it’s my first Underdark Map! I made this not long after having read the dark elf triology and this was my attempt at mapping a huge network of tunnels, dead ends and caves. This must have been made around 1991-92’ish, when i was very fascinated by the dark elf society and their dangerous underground…

The Shadow Council Idea

What is the idea of The Shadow Council? I started Tiny Gork on the idea that i would take one of my biggest campaign stories and see if i could shape it into something other GMs could use. There are a few reasons why i was so fascinated by this idea, one was most likely one that all GMs have thought “get my stuff published woooow!” the other was the way i had constructed my story, the elements i wanted to use allowed it to be very flexible. I used…

Random table – Goblin Den loot

I wanted to test a site called Skreened where you can design a t-shirt and sell it. You can set how many dollars you profit from selling a design and the rest of the cost are added on top of that. So i created a random table of loot that could be could be found in a Goblin Den and slabbed it on the back of a T-shirt Skreened. Goblin Den loot 1. Broken kobold femur. 2. Shiny but worthless ring. 3. Necklace of teeth. 4. Bright coloured stones. 5….

GM Nostalgia #13 – Alsgard Tower, the seat of power to a Black Knight.

It’s time to continue my GM Nostalgia series, where i dive into my old GM archives and present them to you. I always did like going down memory lane going over old maps, dungeons and stories. This time i found an old nugget for you. Alsgard Tower This was used as the seat of power for an undead traitor knight, set out to conquer his old master’s country. It was located inside a valley, surrounded by treacherous mountains and if you did not want to cross the mountains there was…

Gork The Strange

Hola! I want to share my intial feel of one of the few kickstarter projects i have backed, the first one was DemonWars:Reformation by the Salvatore’s (Bob and his two sons). The second one is The Strange by Bruce and Monte published by Monte Cook Games. I backed The Strange mostly because of the hype of Numenera which i missed, so i didn’t wanna miss what could be the next big thing. Strange Physics The Strange is a fitting name for this very hefty tome, it weighs in at 1.5kg/3.3lbs…

I name thee thy True Name!

Hola! It’s been awhile since i’ve been active, apart from Warlock’s Journal i’ve been keeping busy with warhammer40k. I co-hosted an event that went off awesomely! So now i am re-aquainting myself with my writing on the Shadow Council and i am currently trying to research the topic of True Names. The proxies of the Shadow Council set out to discover the True Name of a great entity and i wanted to not fall into too much of a clichรฉ even though a true name is very much so. So…

Warlocks Journal #20 – May 2015 – Chronomancy

Salutations all! April’s contest of the Warlocks Journal just wrapped up at Tales of a GM showing us the next scheme of Hanna Crip to unravel the multiverse. Congratulations to Emil Vahlgren with her “False Gods” scheme. The wandering Warlocks Journal The Warlocks Journal is an interdimensional book that teleports from place to place, recording knowledge in whatever location it finds itself. The places it visits may be widely separated in time and space, and may even be in different dimensions or alternate realities. The handful of people who have…

GM Nostalgia #12 – Castle Eversteel 2nd floor and prison dungeon

Hola! This week I follow up on the Castle Eversteel maps, which is the latest series of maps in my GM Nostalgia posts. I skipped last week and to make up for that I give you two maps this time ๐Ÿ™‚ The last time we looked in on my old old castle map of Eversteel Castle was in the 1st upper floor . The top floor (2nd floor) is the home of not one, but TWO dragons. From the notes on the map it is a black and a red…

GM Nostalgia #11 – Castle Eversteel 1st upper floor

From the ground up! Following last weeks GM Nostalgia it is now time for the 1st upper floor of Castle Eversteel. I don’t have a whole lot more to say on top of last week’s Ground floor map of the castle. Note that there is a handdrawn “2 floor” on the map, but I’m pretty sure that I mixed the term up. I must have counted the ground floor as “the 1st” ๐Ÿ™‚ Do you have any castle maps that you made you want to share with the rest of…

Random Dark Secret Generator – still brainstorming

There would be no light without the darkness I have written on this random generator idea earlier (Here) and I’m still kicking ideas around on paper. Yesterday I came upwith 14 new entries for the first two tables of the generator. I am also debating with myself if I even need the Third table “What happened to put you straight?” as I am unsure if it is even within the theme of the generator. +James Etheridge commented in G+ and some of that made me think that perhaps there are…

GM Nostalgia #10 – Castle Eversteel – ground floor

In the last GM Nostalgia I went back in time yet again to show you the very first castle map I ever made. This week I give you the ground floor map of Castle Eversteel, that was also drawn up back in the 90’s. Unfortunately like the previous castle map, I cannot find the room content list for this castle. So you will have to use your imagination for the stuffings of the rooms ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am afraid I do not remember much about creating this castle either, but I…

Galens Gamble Bootcamp in Hindsight

I have had a series of posts about my Bootcamp project experiences over the last year or so and today I’m taking a look back on my BootCamp Project Galens Gamble. I decided to participate in the first Bootcamp course made by Johnn Four and when I started the BootCamp project it sounded fairly straight forward and manageble. I couldn’t wait to get started! Easy pickings Pick a product Come up with an idea for it Write it up Edit it over a few defined phases Lay it out Publish…

GM Nostalgia #9 – My very first Castle Map – ‘Trollheim’

This week’s GM Nostalgia post is the result of your votes, it was by a landslide that you voted to see my very first Castle Map! I can vaugely remember drawing this when I browse the details, like the courtyard extending in a circle around the castle with minor gates along the way and shooting holes in all the walls of the courtyards. There are room identifiers but I am not sure I have the content list, though there is a note at the bottom of the page “Trolls and…

Dark secrets, Characters with an edge

I have been kicking an idea around inside my head for some time now, it came to me while watching a tv series. Often it is commented in a fiction movie, book or tv series that “good guys also got secrets” or “a bad guy can turn a new leaf”. This got me thinking how I often myself prefer my characters to have a dark edge in some form or other. Sometimes bad things happen and they happen because people act with good intentions, but despite good intentions some bad…

GM Nostalgia #8 – Lich’s Pet Dungeon lvl 4

It is already time for the 8th GM Nostalgia post, time does fly and that is exactly what this series of posts is all about. I’m going back over my old GM stuff and we are coming up on the final map of the Lich’s Pet Dungeon, my very first home made dungeon. If you are new to the series have a look at The GM Nostalgia Archive It seems traps are still a thing in map 4, we got a room full of lava with stepping stones and some…

New Line of products out of Tiny Gork tinkershop

Hola my Gork! I love sharing and I love re-use. So creating a new line of products to other GMs from my own stuff seemed obvious. Gork stuff handouts is a series of images created by myself that I believe could be used as handouts for your party when you want to add that extra touch of Umphf to loot or clues. The first batch being released is a series of pages designed to look like spellbook pages or scrolls with mystic texts and diagrams. On this batch is also…

GM Nostalgia #7 – Lich’s Pet Dungeon lvl 3 (map3)

Hola! I hope you are enjoying my trip down memory lane, manifested in these old dungeon maps of mine, as much as myself. Next up for my GM Nostalgia is the another old map, its the 3rd map in the Lich’s Pet Dungeon, continuing from map 2 obviously ๐Ÿ˜‰ Apparently my map making skills were advancing as i appear to have blacked out the area surrounding dungeon areas, although it was a simple technique of crossing out the squares it did do the job of making the map more pleasantly…

GM Nostalgia #6 – Lich’s Pet Dungeon lvl 2 – Room Stuffings!

It’s time to follow up on the last GM Nostalgia post: GM Nostalgia #5 Lich’s Pet Dungeon Lvl 2 Map with room stuffings. Yet more young me flavor, not a whole lot of room descriptions, i was much more focused on what monster would be facing the adventurers next! Alot of it feels malplaced and weird, yet i think it has that oldschool dungeon crawl to it and i still had some sense of monsters being here was because someone put them here deliberately. Someone is in control of all…

New Gork Stuff – Sketches#1

Hola. Yet another Tiny Gork product has seen the light of day! I have just released Tiny Gork Sketches #1 and for the first 30 days it’s only $3! After that it’s $5 and my loyal Gorks on the newsletter even got a better discount than the $3 ๐Ÿ˜‰ I hope people will find a use for these sketches/drawings, they served me as a player and game master and I hope they will serve others in the future. I have more sketches and drawings I wish to share in future…

GM Nostalgia #5 – New Dungeon Map – Lich’s Pet Dungeon lvl 2

Next up in my old GM papers are the 2nd level of my very first dungeon. We’ve just gone through the first level and it’s 56 room descriptions in the previous 4 GM Nostalgia posts. If you’re new to the series you can catch up on this link, i took the liberty of sorting it chronologically for you, Category: GM Nostalgia. So while looking at the first map and the second map, it appears to me that the first level is some sort of huge building, set before a mountain…

GM Nostalgia #4 – The Lich’s Pet Dungeon Rooms 42-56

Back due to popular demand! (one can hope as much) I now present to you, the final rooms of the first dungeon map i ever made. I have come to remember that the dungeon was created by a Lich and the day to day business is run by a chaotic cleric who lives in the dungeon. But the pet dungeon is merely the first level.. After room 56, there is an entire new map and it doesn’t stop there. Two more maps follow after the 2nd level! But i’m getting…

GM Nostalgia #3 – The Lich’s Pet Dungeon Rooms 21-41

Hi again, I’ve been busy, last week launching Galens Gamble adventure while typing up the next 20 rooms of the Lich’s Pet Dungeon and I’m also working on another product “Gork Sketches” a collection of my character sketches. But ontowards the dungeon content! There are a few empty room in this part, maybe you got some good ideas for stuffing? I’m dying to know! Lets get too it then! Room 21-41 of the Lich’s Pet Dungeon Room 21 A: empty and dusty chance of finding 1d6 coins Room 22 The…

New Release- BootCamp product – Galens Gamble Adventure

Hola! It’s my great pleasure to announce that my Bootcamp project Galens Gamble is now released on Drivethrustuff -> Buy Galens Gamble My newsletter subscribers have had a little week’s headstart with a discount, but now it’s ready for you too! Galens Gamble is the product of the Bootcamp course i took part in, building a RPG book from no idea to release. Normally the course instructs this over 30 days, I took little over a year, however I did all the artwork myself, as well as editing and typography….

GM Nostalgia #2 – Rooms 1-20 of the first dungeon

Last week i decided to take you back to my humble beginnings, to show you my very first home made dungeon. I made it back in 199x i believe. I started roleplay when i was about 15, D&D Basic and soon became embroiled in the AD&D 2nd edition by the established roleplayers. One of my earliest roleplay memories is playing Tasselhof Burrfoot. As a GM i also remember one of my favorite monsters was the rolling Juggernaught, 4 wheels, a ram and a small square housing driving around dungeons and…

RPG Blog Carnival Dec 2014 – Twists

This is my first piece for the RPG Blog carnival, I love twists and subplots. In my 20 years of playing and game mastering, i have found that my mind seeks out connections and relations between events, players and story. Campaign Mastery has set the topic for Decembers Carnival: “With a twist” So i thought i’d use this oppertunity to browse through my old GM library and see what twists was uncovered throughout the years. The black sheep – playercharacter based twist Here’s a story of an adventuring party that…

GM Nostalgia #1 – My First Dungeon Map

I’m sure if you have ever been a GameMaster you sometimes suffer from the same nostalgic rememberance as i do. That particular dungeon, or that monster you created yourself or the first time you killed a playercharacter. I was going through my box with old, oooold papers from all my roleplaying years. It was quite fun to sit there and go through all my old maps and handwritten stories and notes. This was back before i even had a typewriter and no internet, at best i had a library and…

EU VAT reversed 2015

It appears that EU wants to reverse the VAT charging from 2015, as a seller of digital products/services in EU selling to EU customers you will have to pay your tax in the customers country at that countrys VAT rate. I signed a petition against this legislation, as it strikes me as a hampering on small businesses that wants to sell internationally. “PIERRE MOSCOVICI: A unilateral suspension of the introduction of the new EU VAT laws for micro businesses and sole traders” http://www.change.org/p/pierre-moscovici-a-unilateral-suspension-of-the-introduction-of-the-new-eu-vat-laws-for-micro-businesses-and-sole-traders?recruiter=198217866&utm_campaign=signature_receipt&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_petition Support small individual businesses, stopping something like…

Gork people #3 – Desmer Snakeeyes

The Rogue Assassin known as Desmer Snakeeyes Cheers! I want to share with you a story about a lost soul i once ran into. She was a hot lil number she was, such a vixen, wicked as a spider and sneaky like a fox. Her name was Desmer Snakeeyes and she was rogue out of Arendur, once a great city that fell to ruin with hidden shrines devoted to demonic worship. The city was reclaimed and rebuilt by an adventuring band led by a minotaur Warlock who later became king…

Winner of the Warlocks Journal #14

Greetings all! November month was the month of the #14 Warlocks Journal contest and it was hosted here at Tinygork.com. For some reason, it could be timing, there was only one submission this time around. Maybe it was the challenge that was uninspirering or too difficult ? What could I improve to get you to write an entry submission for a future contest? ๐Ÿ™‚ However, winner by default was Phil Nichols. The Last Breath, 3rd fragment of the Sepharil The third Sepharil fragment is now known as The Last Breath….

Bootcamp Project – onto the battlefield of typography!

Typography & Scribus Finally deciding that i’m done editing and re-writing, the project has now moved onto design/layout/typography. So I have tried to educate myself abit on those topics, a really good place for me to start was MB’s practical typography webbook Butterick’s Practical Typography and i also purchased a used copy of the Non-designers design book. All alongside learning to use the Scribus software. So i’m now knee deep in laying out Galens Gamble in Scribustrying to apply all the rules of typography i can remember. It has taken…

Bootcamp – Galens Gamble

The end is fast approaching! I have seen Tiny Gork being deep in his work on the next book, the bootcamp project that was to result in a product is finally about to reach its destination. From what i can gather of my talks and sneakpeaks over his shoulder, Tiny Gork has researched an event concerning a mercenary band led by a man named Galen. Tiny Gork is calling it “Galens Gamble” and it’s about a band of adventurers that stood up to Galen and his mercenaries in a moment…

Warlocks Journal & the Shadow Council

Once again, the Warlocks Journal has found its way to Tiny Gorks workshop. I saw him flipping through it’s pages a few hours ago and i do believe he was mumbling something about artifacts! Now i know that Tiny Gork is somewhat an expert on something known as the Shadow Council. What… you, you don’t .. you have never heard about the Shadow Council ? There once was… many fateful stories starts with these words and in this case it is no less true and yet it might still prove…
