Galens Gamble Bootcamp in Hindsight

I have had a series of posts about my Bootcamp project experiences over the last year or so and today I’m taking a look back on my BootCamp Project Galens Gamble. I decided to participate in the first Bootcamp course made by Johnn Four and when I started the BootCamp project it sounded fairly straight forward and manageble. I couldn’t wait to get started! Easy pickings Pick a product Come up with an idea for it Write it up Edit it over a few defined phases Lay it out Publish…

New Release- BootCamp product – Galens Gamble Adventure

Hola! It’s my great pleasure to announce that my Bootcamp project Galens Gamble is now released on Drivethrustuff -> Buy Galens Gamble My newsletter subscribers have had a little week’s headstart with a discount, but now it’s ready for you too! Galens Gamble is the product of the Bootcamp course i took part in, building a RPG book from no idea to release. Normally the course instructs this over 30 days, I took little over a year, however I did all the artwork myself, as well as editing and typography….

Bootcamp Project – onto the battlefield of typography!

Typography & Scribus Finally deciding that i’m done editing and re-writing, the project has now moved onto design/layout/typography. So I have tried to educate myself abit on those topics, a really good place for me to start was MB’s practical typography webbook Butterick’s Practical Typography and i also purchased a used copy of the Non-designers design book. All alongside learning to use the Scribus software. So i’m now knee deep in laying out Galens Gamble in Scribustrying to apply all the rules of typography i can remember. It has taken…

Bootcamp #6

Grinding my editing So now i think i know what John Four means when he talks about grinds, however he used the term in the period where you write and create. My true grind experience has been in the editing phase of my bootcamp project: Galens Gamble a systemless adventure. According to the plan i should have released this adventure about 2 or 3 months ago, but the editing shifted gear on my motivation, inspiration and momentum. While nothing ever really came to a complete halt, things were going very…

Bootcamp #5 – More editing and editing more

Hola! So i thought it was time for an update on the BootCamp Project. It has been awhile since i last wrote about it, the reason for that is that it is going very slow. As I have mentioned, i came through the writing grind and started editing and this turned out the be the true grind for me. Ontop of regular editing, rooting out bad spelling, bad grammar, fixing sentence structures, deleting filler, i found that my beginning was all wrong and bland. I had a start for the…

RPG BootCamp #4 – Editing

Bootcamp Editing The Grind is over yet editing seems to escape me for the time being. I have put out the complete draft for friends to slash and burn as well as revamped chapter 1. I am not satisfied with the beginning, only about 400 Words in chapter 1 which is all about meeting Thyrgion the Time Hunter. Maybe i need to put in a introduction chapter with various options for adventure hooks. This editing phase is a first for me and usually i loathe going over stuff i have…

Gork people #2 – The Assassin ‘Black Star’

Black Star The facade Her story is no secret, she often shares many anecdotes from her travels. Where alot of mercenaries favors keeping an air of mystery about them, Black Star is very open mouthed. True or false, nobody really knows, though there is one thing she is tightlipped about. She has never revealed her real name, the only identity anyone knows about her is Black Star. The name Black Star is known and feared as a cold and cynical assassin, the underworld is full of stories and rumours about…

RPG BootCamp #3 – First Draft

First Draft What a feeling, 8000+ words done, 6 chapters and a handful of important npc’s as well as a unique monster which turned out to be a character in itself. First draft done, awesome! But i always get those nagging doubts, did i skip too lightly, did i focus too much on a certain detail and so on and so forth. But first draft is all about getting through the grind, putting down your thoughts on paper. Next on the menu is doing a cover, there are some good…

RPG BootCamp #2

3000 Words in ! I am now deep into The Grind on the Bootcamp project, first 3 chapters have been written into the first draft and i still got 3 more to go plus appendix that include npc descriptions, maps and important items. Today i should be finished with the first draft, so i am running abit behind, which i expected since i am unable to get writing done every day. I’m thinking of having some open ended side quest plotlines at the end of the adventure to be expanded…

RPG BootCamp

I recently joined an interresting cource running over 30 days. In 30 days it will take me through the process of creating and publishing a small RPG product from scratch. I thought this a great excercise since i’m still completely new at this independent publishing thing and why not create an adventure featuring the new Time Hunters! So that’s an exciting side quest while i’m steaming onward with the Shadow Council story. I’m around day 10 in the Bootcamp and I now have a table of contents and a rough…
